Meet

Andrea

licensed professional clinical counselor

Welcome, I’m glad you’re here.

I specialize in treating teens and adults with anxiety disorders and sub-specialize in treating the varying forms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. My approach is a blend of cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness, focusing on mind-body integration. You can read more about  my approach and OCD treatment here. I am dedicated to helping clients develop a better relationship with their thoughts and harness their innate resilience to overcome life's challenges. I am also a therapeutic yoga instructor and offer this compliment to therapy to clients.

I love the work that I do and witnessing the growth and healing my clients experience on a daily basis. When I’m not in the office, I spend most of my time busy as a mama, trekking through nature with my Rhodesian Ridgeback, listening to podcasts about cooking and psychology, and practicing yoga. I practice what I preach and believe in living a life rooted in wellness that includes eating a balanced diet that promotes healthy brain function, setting time aside for connecting with friends and family, and practicing daily mindful movement.

I look forward to connecting with you!

Education

Andrea attended Emory University for her undergraduate degree in Psychology. There she conducted research in a psychotherapy lab that investigated the causes and assessment of personality disorders and traits and scientific thinking and its application to psychology. She also was a research assistant at the world renowned Yerkes Laboratory where she studied inferencing in rhesus macaques.

For her graduate degree she attended Columbia University in New York and received a Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and a Master of Education in Psychological Counseling.

Internship

Andrea completed her internship at the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy in Manhattan, NY. There she specialized in working with anxiety disorders, in particular the varying forms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Certification

After her undergraduate career Andrea also received her teaching degree in English as a Second Language, English 8-12 grades, and General Studies 4-8. After spending several years teaching at an underserved school system in Texas, she decided to pursue her graduate degree in psychological counseling.

yoga

Andrea started practicing yoga as a senior in high school.  After continuing her personal practice for several years, she discovered the powerful role the principles of yoga can play in one’s life, and decided to implement the mind-body awareness techniques popularized by yoga with her 6th and 7th grade students while teaching in Houston, TX. Through this experience, she was able to witness the tangible benefits of increasing a child’s mind-body awareness, and she was driven to deepen her scholastic understanding of the topic through her graduate coursework in psychological counseling.  Andrea received her yoga teaching certification at the Asheville Yoga Studio and now shares the transformational benefits of the practice with others.
